FMCA Rally Part Two

There is so much that went on and to cover it all would be hard to do. FMCA used to be the Family Motor Coach Association and at one time only allowed campers that were self contained but in recent times it has opened membership to any type of camper. If you have a camper and you are looking for a club to join FMCA may be a good fit. There are chapters for just about any interest and clubs through out the Northern Hemisphere.

One of the draws of any rally is usually the evening entertainment and this year the lineup was pretty good They had Jim Pelley who was a contributing writer to the original SNL and works a stand up comedian, Narrow Gauge a local cover band out of Colorado and the big draw was Three Dog Night! Usually it is difficult for me to think about my favorite groups from the sixties and seventies still performing but I was amazed by the energy and the harmony that this band still had. Yes sometimes it looked like they may pass out gasping for air but the overall show was great.

Another reasons to attend a rally such as this is to explore the local area around the event and it wasn’t until the last Saturday until we got to visit The Frontier Relics & Car Museum in downtown Gillette. This a privately owned establishment and it is almost overwhelming but we pressed on and had a great tour and also enjoyed a car show that was hosted by the museum.

I thought his truck tire fenders were unique.

On a rare occasion one will run across something that is unusual and the rest room at this museum fits that description. The mirror is mounted in a radiator shell off a thirties Ford car, the faucet is the nozzle off a gas pump, the sink is mounted in an old tire and the soap dish is the foot step off of a truck. Trust me we were not the only people who photographed this room.

It is also important to visit the local eateries and although we found a really nice Mexican restaurant we found an eatery constructed entirely of shipping containers called the Philly Steak Shop! Being from Delaware we had to check it out for lunch and although I am not a fan of the gross Cheese Whiz that usually goes on a Philly Cheese Steak I was pleased with the melted Cheddar Cheese sauce that was used on theirs. The owner said the there were intending to open a second floor for more dining room once things got back to “normal”.

A unique eatery built entirely of shipping containers.

I am certain that some day I will remember something else that was interesting but for now we are headed someplace new in a day or two.
