Still rolling west!

We are not stopping too long in any one place so I will be combining a few stops. Our first stop after the air force museum was a harvest host location that was so close to Indiana, we actually drove into and out of the state while on the exit ramp of the highway! Today’s harvest was a very quiet location, and the employees were fantastic. This place is very large family-owned farm that offers fresh fruits, vegetables and activities to entertain the community. The have a large corn maze each year and one of the recent themes was of the TV show Family Feud featuring Steve Harvey. They would not tell us what this year’s theme will be but we were assured it will be interesting.

Finally got in the picture!

When we left the First Harvest our next stop was almost 400 miles down the road in Rochelle, IL Municiple airfield which is also a member of Harvest Host. They offered sky diving lessons, ultralight aircraft lessons and I am sure there had to be some sort of fixed wing training also. Our host Michael was so helpful, and we will stop again if we are ever in the area. There is a well know cafe at this airport but unfortunately it closed at 2:00 PM on Monday and you guessed it we were there on a Monday.

Edgar acted like he enjoyed it here.

We finally are stopping at a RV park for a couple of nights in Marshal WI at the Whistle Stop RV Park which is on the property adjacent to a family-oriented park called Little Americka. The park has a small gauge train the runs from the amusement park to the RV park which, I am guessing, is why the RV is called Whistle Stop. The amusement park was closed the days we stayed so we decided to tour the countryside and ended up at a place called the Sassy Cow. This family-owned facility sold a large selection of dairy products, offered an extensive lunch menu including several versions of the classic grilled cheese sandwich. Included with your sandwich you go some of best home cooked potato chips and a bottomless supply of milk. They offered several flavors of milk in your choice of whole, low fat or lactose free milk. If I was not planning on getting ice cream for dessert it would have been real easy to consume way too many glassed of the chocolate banana flavored milk. Instead, I had a bowl of huckleberry ice cream, and it was delicious!

Interesting facts about Wisconsin dairies.
Inside the Sassy Cow which is actually near Bristol WI.

While talking to the cashier of the Sassy Cow she suggested a visit to an antique mall or a store that sold all kinds of old time “penny candy” in Waterloo WI so off we went to Waterloo. As our luck has been running the antique mall was closed but the stop at the “penny candy” store was fantastic. The owner of the store collected so much stuff it was kind of overwhelming. I never knew how many different flavors Oreos came in, but this guy does and has the packaging to prove it. The owner is one of those people you feel like you have known all your life to be honest I am glad I don’t live close to Waterloo. I am certain he and I have enough interests we would always be buying something. The owner has taken it upon himself to be a one-man restoration society of Waterloo WI and to date he has purchased twelve properties in the town. His goal is to restore them to the condition they were in years ago. He offered us some Sassy Cow ice cream but since we had already had some we declined. Although we declined the offer of ice cream the owner still insisted on giving us something. One gift turned in several before we got out of the store see the photo below to see how much we received.

Two bottles of wine, a bottle of maple syrup, four different types of chocolate covered snacks and a dozen large chocolate chip cookies!
