The Biltmore is huge!
Today we are in Ashville, NC and our primary destination is The Biltmore Estate. This is the largest privately owned house in America and believe me if you have never been here, it should be a must item on your bucket list. I believe this is the fifth time I have been here, and I am certain that it probably will not be my last.
I know that today there is a lot of talk about what the wealthy people are doing, or not doing, with their money but what the Vanderbilt’s did back then was accepted as what the rich people do. If you need more proof of that simply go to the Hamptons in Rhode Island. One of the most ornate and oversized rooms in the Biltmore was the dining room. Pictured below are the decorated end walls of the vaulted dining room.
The estate is on several thousand acres and on the day, we were there the view was fantastic! Of course, not all of the property is wide open spaces and like every other estate I have toured this one had some beautiful gardens.
On another day we went to Black Mountain NC which is a small town near Ashville, NC one of the attractions is a mountain range called the “Seven Sisters”. I am sure there is some local lore about the seven mountain tops, but I don’t remember it.
The KOA campground we stayed at was in East Ashville and it was really nice. Even with the Covid restrictions it was still a fun place to stay. The campground had a large lake that one day Edgar and I walked around. The photo below was from one of the vistas around the lake.
Well, this turned out to be our last stop in this particular adventure, but only because we could not find a campground near an apple harvest festival in central Pennsylvania. I hope everyone has enjoyed the post of our summer adventures. When home we have to get some things ready before attending a wedding in Punta Cana, DR. After that we will be getting ready for our winter in Florida.
Thank you for sharing the photos & stories.
