The Discovery Owners Rally

After two travel days we arrived at the Ridge RV Park in Sevierville, TN and without a doubt it is the nicest park we have been in and for the next week we will be attending the Discovery Owner Association summer rally. This is our first time attending this rally, so we don’t know what to expect but we have been assured that this small rally offers quite a bit. There are vendors coming to offer their goods and present a few seminars concerning Discovery RVs. We have several sightseeing and entertainment options as well as a chance to make many new friends. Due to Covid-19 guidelines so many things that could be available have been closed down but taking all things into consideration we are doing fairly well.

The Ridge RV Resort, the rig there in front is the back end of our coach.
Although there was only 95 people in attendance over 25 states were represented.

When we checked in, we received a door prize ticket that we didn’t even have to wait for a drawing. We just went to a certain room to see what we won. Turns out it was everything needed to properly check the power supply voltage that we plug our coach into. Almost every rally we have attended had a seminar presenting the merits of having some way to verify that proper voltage and polarity this was a great addition to our tool kit. The cord plugs into the pedestal then you use the small white cube to check voltage and the yellow device plugs in to assure that you have the correct polarity. Now that we have this it should eliminate connecting to an improperly wired supply allowing us to avoid some very expensive repairs.

One night we went to Pigeon Forge at attended a dinner show loosely based on the feud between the Hatfield and McCoy families. The show was entertaining, and the food was great. However, our server was from Russia and although her service was okay her attitude needed improvement. If you are ever in the area allow time to attend at least one dinner show but allow extra travel time because there is traffic everywhere.

On another day we took a bus tour through the area and the weather got nasty really quick, so it didn’t provide too many photo ops. The photo below was at a vista that provided the best view of the day. Each time I am in the Smokey Mountains I wonder what it may have been like back when the pioneers were settling it. Driving up and down the mountain roads was tricky I would hate to have to walk or even ride a horse anywhere.

The mountains are known for all of the moonshiners that used to distill illegal alcohol but now days there are several state licensed distilleries that offer all kinds of moonshine-based beverages. We stopped at the Tennessee Shine Company for a tasting and left with several additional Christmas presents. Since we liked all of the gifts the only stipulation was that if the recipient did not enjoy it, they were supposed to return it to us. The ones I remember were a root beer flavored, apple pie and one that was similar to Irish cream.

We have enjoyed our week here and have learned more than expected and will be leaving better equipped to enjoy our Discovery RV. From here we are going to Ashville, NC to tour the Biltmore Mansion and other attractions in the area.
