We are going to boondock!

We left Duboise and have a while until we go to Loveland, Colorado and we don’t have any camp site reserved so we are going to try boondocking. Boondocking is camping without any campground or amenities at all. Somewhat like pulling into Walmart for the evening while travelling down the highway. The only difference is that we will be out in the wilderness. Judy did some research and we found a good looking spot about 12 miles outside of Greenriver, WY. We were so far out the only technology we had was our satellite tv. We ran the generator to keep the coach cool and the batteries charged but in the night it got well into the 50’s!

Our first boondocking experience.
Our first boondocking sunset.
From the highway we are the small dot under the arrow.

Our first adventure was out of Greenriver and it was a ride of almost 75 miles of dirt road called “Wild Horse Loop”. It was very pretty and we saw a lot of interesting scenery but we didn’t see too many horses, we did see two. We found a tranquil river to stop at for a few minutes and a lot of dusty dirt road!

Edgar liked the still water and blue skies.
Dirt roads and desolation as far as the eye can see.
Over sixty miles of dirt road and only two wild horses.

We are staying on public ground in the Flaming Gorge Wild Life area which covers almost 100 miles of territory. On day two we decided to explore that way and it was something else! along the way we saw a road marked “Wild Animal Loop” so you know we didn’t see on blooming wild animal but the Geology of the are was fantastic. I only hope the photos I post come close to showing what we saw.

Some unusual rock formation.

After while we came across an area called Red Canyon and it was a really large lake. I could not believe the size of some of the boats that were on this lake. People were water skiing, fishing and just lounging around on party barges. Except for the several hundred feet of cliff between where we were standing and the water it almost looked like some of the secluded spots on the Chesapeake bay.

There were boats everywhere!
This is the dam that created the lake.

When we leave here we are going to Loveland, Colorado and we are going to be spending a lot of time at the Cheyenne Frontier Days. Another adventure begins soon!
