We are still heading west!

Well we left Newark on June 10 and went to Temperanceville, VA for a long camping weekend with our camping club, First State Travelers which is a FMCA affiliate. If you have a RV and want to have a lot of fun join FMCA and then find a local club to join. The nice thing is that you can join with any type of RV not just a motor home. We did a lot of running around and probably ate too much but a fun time was had by all

Love in the Virginia Eastern Shore.

After leaving Virginia we had to stop in Harrisburg, PA to get some maintenance and a recall addressed on the RV. While waiting to get the work done we went to see the Capitol building and the rest of the Government complex for PA. There were at least 3 different demonstrations scheduled for the day and it was interesting to watch as the different groups staged their props to have the greatest media impact if they happened to get on the news. Later that evening as we watched the news only one of the three made the cut and I forget what they were speaking for. Although we were warned that it could take several days to get the recall finished we were happy to find all was completed in just one day. We will be on the road again the next day.

We visited the Capitol building in Harrisburg while getting the RV serviced.

Our next stop was in South Fork, PA to visit friends that we met in Pioneer Creek RV resort in Florida. Carol and her husband Don went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Their home and outside amenities were fantastic! While visiting them we went to the site of the private lake that caused the Johnstown Flood. It was an interesting place to see. the breastwork of the old earthen dam is still there and you can stand at the top and then hike a trail down to what would have been the bottom of the lake. One of the major factors of why the dam failed was that the coffer dam which could have allowed water to be released as needed was inoperable because a screen, which had been placed across it to prevent fish from escaping the lake, was blocked with debris. Since they could not safely release the water the only thing that could happened if it didn’t stop raining was a failure of the dam. After the flood the wealthy people who owned the lake just disappeared and life went on. One can only imagine all of the finger pointing and litigation had this happened today.

This poem was composed after the flood expressing the feelings of the general public.
While enjoying Carol and Don’s pool area Edgar thought he saw a helicopter.
