We Got Away For 3 Weeks

Well it took some doing but we managed to get away for some RV rest and relaxation in July. Yeah I know I am late with this news but it has been one of those years.

We first went to Rehoboth, DE to celebrate Thanksgiving in July which is a tradition that Judy’s oldest son and friends; who worked at the beach during the summer; started years ago because they never could get together in November. I am happy to say that once again it was a lot of fun. It is amazing to me how so many young people could come together almost 20 years ago and have managed to keep their friendship going.

From there we went to Chincoteague, VA for a quiet week that usually would have been pony round up week but although they did round the ponies up they trucked them to the corral at the carnival grounds. I want to thank Larry and Clarissa for being such great tour guides. If anyone is looking for a really good campground I can highly suggest Tom’s Cove Campground which is still family owned. If you like to fish or catch crabs as a guest of the campground you can fish from their piers without any license and while we were there people were catching bushels of Blue Crabs and legal size flounder. One of the highlights of the week was the pony auction and this year although it was not a live auction it was not a disappointing one. For the first time the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company raised over $300,000.00 with highest pony bringing the grand sum of $28,250.00 for a pony that was being returned to the herd. For that money the person who purchased the pony got to name it and their family has a certain legacy that may or may not get them some future consideration. The best part about this purchase is that I personally know the family of the lady who bought it! Their ancestry goes back to my small home town of Oxford, PA and out of consideration for their privacy I will not go into any deeper detail. There is so much to do I am certain that we will return to the pony round up again.

Somewhere in this herd is a $28,250.00 foal.

When it came time to leave Chincoteague we decided to travel to Max Meadows, VA which is where my mother was born and my family still owns a small plot of land. I managed to catch up to a couple of my long lost cousins and their hospitality was fantastic. There is a lot of great scenery in that area and I am certain that there is some really great hiking trails. One day we just went on a road trip and found Cripple Creek VA which is a very small village but we had to stop because in July I started taking banjo lessons and the first real tune I learned was “Cripple Creek” Maybe some day I’ll get brave enough to post me playing it but until then here is proof that I have been to Cripple Creek. While on this road trip we passed a church with the sign that is posted below, I thought it was funny enough that I had to share it. While in southwest VA we did a lot of other stuff but probably only interesting to us so I won’t bore you with it. We had an uneventful trip home and started planning our next trip

My long lost cousins Donna and Norma from Wytheville , VA
Not sure if they are looking for bodies of money but I passed on both.
